If you’re going to San Francisco wear some flowers in your hair.

After a few days in LA we headed out for a little road trip up to San Fran. We had never made the drive before, and thought it might give us an opportunity to see some of California’s many landscapes. We arrived at the Argonaut hotel for our one evening planned to spend in the city. It’s such a neat nautically themed hotel. I kind of have a thing for anchors, so I was really digging the decor. We had a long list of things to do in the very short amount of time we were spending there… So, as soon as we got settled we were off to do some exploring!

Can anyone tell where we were off to first?

Anyone that’s even been to my house probably knows I’m kind of quirky. I sort of have this thing with old penitentiaries, asylums, jails, etc. History is amazing to me. Dilapidated history even more so. There is so much beauty and grit in images of places like that. In our living room we have three coffee table books.. One is a Kelley Ryden & Tracey Raver newborn photography book, another is an old medical book handed down to me, and the third and last is a book my husband got me with photos of old asylums all over the country.. Freaky combo – but, I embrace it. Ha. Those that follow me on Instagram probably remember a little over a year ago I spent the night in The Waverly Hills Sanatorium. That stuff freaks me out, but I oddly like it. Naturally, Alcatraz was on my “must do” list!

I’ll be honest here — I know Alcatraz’s purpose was to house some of the worst criminals out there.. Once we arrived on the island Jon & I were VERY confused. You also might be confused looking at some of these photos.. This place is GORGEOUS! Some of the scenery reminded us of an island vacation! Jon may have even mentioned he wouldn’t mind being imprisoned there. I’m going to keep that in mind should he ever start misbehaving. I’ll just ship him off for a while.

This is a window inmates used to peer out to catch a glimpse of the city.

We had dinner at one of the most FAB places I’ve even been to. A special thanks to Jon’s friend in San Fran that recommended it to us. Absolutely stellar! If you’re ever in San Fran make sure to stop in for dinner at The House – and make sure you have a reservation! It’s a definite must. The sparkling shiraz was the perfect night cap for out last night in the city.
